Chapter 2446 — The Hero Rescues the Beauty Again
The food here was actually quite good—perhaps because everyone was hungry, for they all praised these simple farmhouse dishes without reserve.
Kang Zhaolong had wanted to find some topic to chat with Wang Xinyan about, but seeing that everyone was busy eating and barely talking, the atmosphere felt rather dull, and he truly had no idea how to break in.
These past few days, Kang Zhaolong had been reading a novel on his phone that Kang Zhaoming had recommended to him, titled *The Prequel to Very Pure, Very Ambiguous*. It was said to contain countless secrets for picking up girls and amusing descriptions of ski resort escapades, so he had crammed with it on short notice, hoping to learn a thing or two. The moment he started reading, he was utterly hooked—it really was good, and the material inside was highly practical!
It suddenly occurred to him that the male lead in that book loved to tell his girlfriend jokes, which sent the heroine into fits of laughter and set her heart fluttering. So Kang Zhaolong felt that he, too, ought to tell Wang Xinyan a joke.
"I imagine everyone's been feeling pretty glum after that business with the robbers, right? And look at you all, heads down, eating away in silence. How about I tell a few jokes for everyone?" Kang Zhaolong said.
"Sure!" Right Panhu, seated not far across from Kang Zhaolong, was the first to cheer him on.
"Haha, this joke is actually a brain teaser." Kang Zhaolong turned with a smile toward Wang Xinyan. "What is it that comes out of your backside, and yet can still be eaten?"
"Huh?" The students present were struck dumb for a moment. Even Right Panhu's expression froze with a trace of disgust—everyone was eating, so why bring up something that comes out of your backside? Was that not shit?
"Xinyan, do you know?" Kang Zhaolong, oblivious to how ill at ease everyone's expressions had become, was wholly fixed on the idea of cheering Wang Xinyan up and had thought nothing further. When it came to matters of the heart, he was an absolute idiot—otherwise he would never have resorted to reading books to learn pickup tricks.
"I... I don't know..." Wang Xinyan, who had been eating with her head down, went stiff at his words, speechless.
"Well, it seems nobody knows, so I'll reveal the answer!" Kang Zhaolong said smugly. "The answer is—eggs! Hahahaha, eggs come out of a chicken's backside. How's that, fun, isn't it? Hahaha..."
Wang Xinyan's chopsticks happened to be holding a piece of egg just then. Her hand trembled, and the egg dropped onto the table. Her expression could not have been more bizarre...
"Uh..." Kang Zhaolong sensed something was off as well—he had not expected Wang Xinyan to be about to eat a piece of egg right then, and he grew instantly awkward. "Xinyan, this is only a joke, haha... pay it no mind, go on eating... Though eggs come out of a chicken's backside, they have a shell, don't they? There's a saying—'rising unstained from the mud'—that is precisely the principle at work here..."
"Ahem... I'm full..." Wang Xinyan set down her chopsticks, her appetite utterly ruined by Kang Zhaolong.
Wei Zhao, however, calmly picked up a piece of egg and put it in his mouth. He cast Kang Zhaolong a faint glance. "Done?"
"Uh... done..." Kang Zhaolong's heart gave a lurch for no reason. Though he did not believe Wei Zhao would dare do anything to him in public, the flatness of Wei Zhao's tone just now had left Kang Zhaolong involuntarily nervous.
"If you're done, then hurry up and eat!" Wei Zhao took a bottle of corn juice and handed it to Wang Xinyan. "Drink some corn juice. You've barely eaten anything..."
"Oh..." Wang Xinyan took the corn juice. Indeed, she had hardly taken a few bites before Kang Zhaolong had killed her appetite.
Kang Zhaolong was secretly vexed. It seemed his head, having just been struck, was not working properly, and he had said things that put Wang Xinyan in a foul mood. Not daring to say another word, he could only sit obediently at the side and eat...
Su Lengzi was the little thug boss of the area around the ski resort. Every day, with nothing better to do, he would take his two underlings, A-Da and A-Er, wandering about the resort, collecting protection money from the nearby businesses, and flirting with pretty girls. Day in and day out, he never tired of it!
Of course, the reason Su Lengzi could thrive here without the resort taking any measures against him was that he had a good uncle. His uncle was the resort's general manager, who turned a blind eye to his nephew's behavior. The businesses in the resort were already making plenty of money anyway—a little extortion from his nephew would not stop them from renewing their leases the following year.
So long as the books showed no problems, it was impossible that the group's chairman would concern himself with the fine details inside one of the group's holiday resort ski lodges.
Today, Su Lengzi had brought his two underlings to the farmhouse restaurant where Wei Zhao and the others were dining, to shake it down. Only, seeing the restaurant packed to the rafters today, Su Lengzi's face immediately turned somewhat ugly!
"A-Da, A-Er, go clear a table for your big brother!" Su Lengzi ordered his two enforcers.
"Yes, Brother Lengzi!" A-Da and A-Er answered at once, then began choosing their targets.
And while A-Da and A-Er picked their targets, Su Lengzi's own eyes were not idle either—they fell straight upon Wang Xinyan! Here was a beauty of the first order. Su Lengzi's tastes ran to shaking people down and flirting with beauties, so the moment he laid eyes on Wang Xinyan, his eyes lit up!
"Wait!" Su Lengzi waved a hand, signaling A-Da and A-Er to hold off.
"Brother Lengzi, what is it?" A-Da asked quickly.
"There's a beauty!" Su Lengzi pointed toward the table where Wang Xinyan sat.
Han Jingyi was a little beauty too, but at that moment she was fiddling with her tablet computer while she ate, her head lowered, so Su Lengzi did not see her. Besides, Wang Xinyan was the first to catch his eye, and first impressions ruled; everyone else was automatically overlooked!
Su Lengzi strolled over, grinning, and came to a stop behind Wang Xinyan. He looked left and right: on one side was Wei Zhao, on the other Kang Zhaolong. Though his name was Su Lengzi—"Lengzi" meaning a reckless fool—he was no idiot. Seeing Wei Zhao wholly unscathed while Kang Zhaolong's face was covered in bruises, he picked the soft persimmon to squeeze!
"Hey there, little chick, you're quite the looker! I like you!" Su Lengzi leered at Wang Xinyan, then smacked the back of Kang Zhaolong's head and bellowed, "Hey, kid, on your feet for your big brother!"
"Sss—fuck!" Kang Zhaolong had a great big blood swelling on the back of his head. Though it had been medicated, it had not yet gone down completely, and Su Lengzi's smack sent pain shooting through him. He leapt to his feet, baring his teeth in agony, and glared at Su Lengzi!
He had already suffered enough humiliation. A few real robbers had beaten him up—he had not grasped the situation and had taken the beating for nothing, and when he wanted revenge, he could not even find them. Then Wei Zhao had dressed him down, and since he dared not provoke Wei Zhao, he had simply endured it.
But to have his head smacked by a common little thug—Kang Zhaolong had finally reached the limit of forbearance, and forbearance was no longer needed!
