Chapter 636 — You Brought Her Here?

The Blossom Guardian

"Oh? Is that so. I understand." After hearing this, the tattooed man betrayed nothing, saying only, in an even tone.

The hook-nosed man did not know there was anyone above the tattooed man; he had assumed the tattooed man was the top of the chain, and that was why he had offered Qiu Lingshan up to him.

Hanging up on the hook-nosed man, the tattooed man hurried to An Jianwen's side. "Brother Wen, the boys downstairs have caught a girl — they say she's a fine piece of work, maybe even a virgin. How about you take a look..."

"Oh?" An Jianwen raised an eyebrow. His mood was wretched beyond words; all he wanted was somewhere to vent, and nowhere had it. The moment he heard that a girl had been brought in below, his interest flared. "Bring her here so I can see her."

Those men downstairs, for all that they were hardly men of any great refinement, were handsomely paid after every job and knew their way into the high-end nightclubs; they had seen their share of pretty girls. For them to call a girl fresh as water — and to dare ring him up and present her personally — she had to be something rare indeed.

An Jianwen had been fretting over having nowhere to vent his spleen, and now someone had delivered her to his very door. It put him in a rare and pleasant humor.

The tattooed man sent a car to the hook-nosed man's relay station, and Qiu Lingshan was soon brought to headquarters and locked in the dungeon they had built themselves.

Stunning beyond all words — that was the tattooed man's first impression of Qiu Lingshan. Not merely a pretty face; the figure was explosive as well, curving out where it should curve out and lifting where it should lift. Truly top of the line. And by the tattooed man's many years of experience, the woman before him was a virgin, no question about it. That rather suited Brother Wen's standard for his women.

Beyond that, though, the tattooed man found Qiu Lingshan strangely familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before — yet for the life of him he could not call it to mind.

Once Qiu Lingshan was locked away, the tattooed man returned to An Jianwen's side and said in a low voice, "Brother Wen, she's delivered. Truly top of the line — only she strikes me as a little familiar, as if I've seen her somewhere."

He was a cautious man who let no detail slip past him, which was why, after all these years, nothing had ever gone wrong. When An Jianwen's brother had still been here, the tattooed man had already been the man in charge.

"Where have I seen her? What is that supposed to mean?" An Jianwen frowned. "Someone you knew before?"

"I shouldn't think so. I have an impression of her, but I can't say where I saw her — and even if I did know her, she'd be no one close." He shook his head. "I'm not a local; I couldn't possibly have relatives in Binjia Village."

"Is that so." An Jianwen hesitated a moment. "Turn on the dungeon cameras. I'll look for myself."

"Yes, Brother Wen!" The tattooed man nodded and brought up the surveillance feed from the dungeon. A monitor had been installed in An Jianwen's room, and everything inside the dungeon could be seen there in perfect clarity.

After reaching the dungeon, Qiu Lingshan still had not "woken" and went on playing at being unconscious. In truth, she had already stolen a look around: there were several cameras in the dungeon, which meant whatever she did here could presumably be watched from outside. So, to keep the enemy off their guard, she stayed limp and unseeing.

This must be the headquarters of the kidney-harvesting ring, mustn't it? She wondered whether Liu Wangli and the others outside had received the signal.

"Damn it — the tracker on Captain Song has lost its signal!" Liu Wangli stared, tense, at the surveillance screen in the precinct and cried out.

Before she left, Qiu Lingshan had taken a signal transmitter with her. In other words, wherever she was could be followed on the precinct's tracker — which would let them go straight for the enemy's lair.

But the signal had vanished soon after Qiu Lingshan was taken to the first relay station! Could something have gone wrong somewhere in between?

Liu Wangli's face was taut with alarm, and the men beside him were no different; all of them stared at the screen, nerves strung tight...

The tattooed man was no fool — he had done this for years without a mishap, and he had his methods. What he feared above all was someone sent by the police slipping in with a signal transmitter on them, so the car sent for pickups had already been fitted with signal jamming and shielding, and the headquarters all the more so: apart from their special landline, not a single mobile phone could get a signal here.

An Jianwen's own phone, of course, had call forwarding set up and could still be reached.

The monitor screen flickered on; the lens crept in, closer and closer, until An Jianwen at last made out Qiu Lingshan's face. He burst out cursing: "Fuck!"

"What is it, Brother Wen?" The tattooed man was thrown by An Jianwen's reaction; he had no idea what had provoked it. "Brother Wen, you know her?"

"How could I not know her? Qiu Lingshan! Captain of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Songshan City Police Department!" An Jianwen's eyes went wide. "The woman Chen Yutian is courting — and you brought her here?"

"Ah? You can't be serious — we grabbed the detective captain?" The tattooed man was dumbstruck. No wonder she had looked so familiar: she was the police's criminal investigation captain, a face you saw on television all the time. He must have seen her — it was only that Qiu Lingshan had taken over Yang Huaijun's post so recently that he had hardly paid her any mind. Still, this had blown up far bigger than he had bargained for, and there was no telling how Brother Wen would deal with him. He wouldn't have him killed, would he?

At the thought the tattooed man's heart gave a lurch. He knew exactly how ruthless An Jianwen could be. The man looked perfectly refined, but the tattooed man knew him for what he was: hard through and through. Back when An Jianwen's brother had still paid for kidneys, An Jianwen had simply taken them by force.

Cross him over a woman and he would simply cut a kidney out of you — such savagery was beyond the reach of ordinary men. No wonder the tattooed man was shaken to his core: would An Jianwen kill him to vent his rage? The man had been in a black mood all day, and he, trying to curry favor, had gone and fetched a pretty girl to amuse him — only to do a good deed and turn it into a disaster, hauling in the captain of the criminal investigation detachment. Wasn't that simply begging for death?

At the thought, the tattooed man asked, with a miserable kind of timidity: "Brother Wen, I'm sorry — I've fouled up. If anything really goes wrong, I'll go out and take the fall for it..."
