Chapter 631 — Choosing a Dare Leads to Tragedy: "Oh, then it's settled! I'll be the concubine from now on!" Shen Yushu said happily.

The Blossom Guardian

"Ahem, uh, Brother Yutian, I think there may be something a little off about Xiaoshu's way of thinking!" An Jianwen was so frightened his heart was about to burst. This would never do! A wife and a concubine might be every man's dream, but it all depended on what sort of wife and concubine they were. If he brought Shen Yushu home as well, wouldn't his life be a living hell? Would he even survive?

"She's a child. Children love to make mischief." Chen Yutian thought nothing of it. He assumed his sister was joking — after all, the whole thing sounded absurd, and his sister's ideas had always been out of the ordinary. It was entirely possible she had said it on purpose just to tease An Jianwen.

"This doesn't look like mischief to me!" An Jianwen said with great earnestness. "Brother Yutian, you have to guide your sister properly. This is a new era — how can anyone still have a wife and a concubine? It simply won't do. You really must teach her better!"

But before Chen Yutian could say a word, Shen Yushu spoke up first: "This is between me and Sister Yaoyao. What business is it of yours?"

"Gah!" An Jianwen was instantly struck dumb. True enough — this was their business. Wasn't he just sticking his nose where it didn't belong? If he had confessed to Gu Mengyao and she had accepted him, then it would be his business. But he hadn't confessed yet, had he?

"All right, it's Sister Yaoyao's turn to ask a question!" Shen Yushu shot An Jianwen an impatient glare. "Sister Yaoyao, it's your turn!"

"Me...?" Gu Mengyao had no idea what to ask. She thought it over, still came up with nothing, and finally said, "Shall I just hand this right over to Xiaoshu?"

"That works. Give it to Xiaoshu, then!" An Jianwen was desperate to make his confession, so how could he possibly refuse Gu Mengyao's suggestion?

"Yay, yay, I love asking questions best!" Shen Yushu rubbed her hands together, eager to begin, and looked at Su Taizao with a smile. "Brother Taizao, I'm going to ask you a question, all right?"

"Mm, go ahead!" Su Taizao nodded. He too was eager to pose a question that would let An Jianwen confess, so he was just as impatient.

"Brother Taizao, how old were you when you stopped wetting the bed?" Shen Yushu asked.

"Gah?" Su Taizao's eyes went wide. He had never expected Shen Yushu to ask something like that! The question was funny, but it was also razor-sharp — because Su Taizao had a secret: he had wet the bed since he was small! Few people knew of it, but those close to him had some inkling; they simply never brought it up to his face, out of regard for his pride.

Back in kindergarten, Su Taizao had once peed all over the child sleeping in the bunk below him! And after that, he had never again lived in a school dormitory or anywhere of the sort. Even now, he dared not drink too much water at night, for fear of wetting the bed.

This secret was a wound that would never heal. Now that Shen Yushu had suddenly brought it up, Su Taizao found it hard to answer. Truth or Dare meant you had to tell the truth — though of course you could lie, so long as no one caught you out.

But Su Taizao did not dare lie. The matter was secret, yet people did know of it; he even suspected that Shen Yushu had asked on purpose precisely because she knew. So the moment he lied, she would expose him, and that would be even more humiliating.

Su Taizao seethed with resentment, yet there was nothing he could do. The reason was simple: this was just the kind of person Shen Yushu was. She had already run An Jianwen ragged a moment ago — what was he, compared to that?

Nor could Su Taizao bring himself to admit it outright. Surely he could not say that he still wet the bed to this very day? How humiliating would that be! But if he would not say it, his only options were a dare or a penalty drink.

Su Taizao had already drunk a good deal. More would make him miserable, so after thinking it over he decided to take the dare. "I refuse to answer. I'll take a dare!"

"Oh, wonderful, a dare at last!" Shen Yushu clapped her hands in approval.

Su Taizao became all the more certain that Shen Yushu had done it on purpose — she wanted to watch someone take a dare, so she had deliberately come up with such a devious question.

In fact, Shen Yushu really had asked off the top of her head. Chen Yutian knew a little about Su Taizao's secret, but he would never breathe a word of such things to his sister. Shen Yushu's question was nothing but a blind cat stumbling onto a dead mouse.

"Brother Taizao, I command you to drink two bottles of red wine!" Shen Yushu said after a moment's thought.

"Gah?!" Su Taizao nearly leapt out of his chair! Two bottles of red wine? What kind of joke was this? The whole reason he had not chosen the penalty drink was that he did not want to drink any more, and now Shen Yushu was ordering him to down two bottles of red wine — wasn't that just toying with him?

But he had chosen the dare, and he could not take it back now. Shen Yushu's demand was not all that excessive either — it fell within the normal rules — so he had no grounds to refuse.

Su Taizao sat there dithering, and Gu Mengyao found it hard not to laugh. Shen Yushu really was a torment — wasn't this just deliberately making Su Taizao regret his choice?

"Brother Taizao, are two bottles too few? How about four?" Shen Yushu looked at him innocently, as though she were not the one behind this mischief at all.

What kind of joke was that? Four bottles? Su Taizao finally felt a flicker of relief that Shen Yushu had ordered only two. If it had been four, wouldn't he have drunk himself to death on the spot?

"Enough, drink up and let's get on with it!" An Jianwen's mind was entirely on his upcoming confession, so he cared little whether Su Taizao drank or not — he simply wanted the game to continue.

Since An Jianwen had said so too, Su Taizao had no choice but to grit his teeth and pour down two bottles of red wine. Then he said, "All right, let's continue. It's my turn to ask. Brother An, what I want to ask you is: do you have someone you love?"

"Of course I do!" Hearing that Su Taizao had finally asked the crucial question, An Jianwen began to speak with great relish, the words pouring out in a torrent: "The one I love is my childhood sweetheart — Yaoyao! When we were small, I secretly adored her in silence, hoping that when we grew up she would be my girlfriend, and that I would marry her and have children with her..."

"Oh, so you want to marry Sister Yaoyao?" Shen Yushu suddenly cut in.

"I do!" An Jianwen blurted out without a moment's thought. But the instant the words left his mouth, he sensed something was wrong. "Gah?"

These were An Jianwen's true feelings. He might think it, but he could never say it aloud! It was only that today he had been drinking, and had been talking so exuberantly that he forgot himself — and fell right into Shen Yushu's trap.
