Chapter 619 — An Jianwen Pays a Visit

The Blossom Guardian

"Brother An, how about you pretend to let something slip after a few drinks?" Su Taizao said, struck by a sudden inspiration. "When the time comes, you have a little to drink, then go confess to Gu Mengyao. If she likes you, she'll naturally act all shy — she might even want to make sure whether you're just talking drunk or you really mean it! Of course, if she doesn't want you to confess, you can always pass it off as drunk talk. She won't hold it against you, surely? And when you meet again after that, it won't be awkward!"

"Taizao, that idea of yours is actually pretty good. But tomorrow you'll have to back me up a bit!" An Jianwen nodded. "So shall we head over to Gu Mengyao's place now?"

"Yeah, Brother An, don't worry. Tomorrow I'll help you create the right opportunity — when the time comes, just go ahead and confess!" Su Taizao pledged, patting his chest.

Wei Zhao hadn't expected An Jianwen and Su Taizao to show up at this hour. Looking at the two of them outside the villa, Wei Zhao frowned. "Brother An, what brings you here at this hour? Xiaoshu isn't feeling well — she's upstairs resting..."

Wei Zhao didn't know whether An Jianwen had come to see Gu Mengyao or himself, so he asked.

"Heh heh, we've come to see Xiaoshu. Since she's sick, then as her elder brothers we ought to pay her a visit all the more!" An Jianwen said with a smile. "Taizao, go buy some fruit!"

"Sure, Brother An!" Su Taizao grabbed the car keys and went to get the car, while An Jianwen remained standing at the villa entrance.

"Then wait a moment. I'll go ask Yao Yao and Xiaoshu." Wei Zhao was only humoring An Jianwen, wanting to use him to deal with Zhong Yongliang, so he didn't need to care much about him. He simply left him standing at the entrance.

When Wei Zhao returned to the villa, Gu Mengyao had already come into the living room. Clearly she had heard the doorbell at the entrance too. Seeing Wei Zhao come in, she asked, "Wei Zhao, who's here? Is it Uncle Qing?"

"No, it's An Jianwen and Su Taizao. No idea what they want," Wei Zhao said to Gu Mengyao, gesturing toward the entrance behind him.

"Brother Jianwen? Why is he here again?" Though Gu Mengyao's tone was polite, there was a clear coldness to it, a keep-your-distance sort of chill. She plainly didn't much like having An Jianwen as a guest in her home.

"How would I know? But they say they've come to see Xiaoshu." Wei Zhao shrugged.

"Yao Yao, let them in. My brother's coming back tomorrow — maybe that's why they're here?" Shen Yushu had come downstairs as well. She was behind Gu Mengyao, now standing by the stairs. "I thought it was Uncle Qing bringing food. I'm so hungry! I really want to eat a big meal!"

"Hungry? You're hungry again? And you want to eat a big meal?" Wei Zhao was momentarily speechless. She'd just thrown up not long ago, and now she was hungry again? And a big meal, no less? Who knew what Shen Yushu was made of — once the wound healed, she forgot the pain?

"Yeah, yeah, I feel like my stomach's totally empty. It's even growling." Shen Yushu rubbed her flat belly and complained, "I threw up too thoroughly earlier. It would've been better if I'd kept some of it down..."

"Why don't you just eat back what you threw up?" Gu Mengyao shot Shen Yushu a glare, finding the topic disgusting.

"Oh, that would've been enough for the two of us!" Shen Yushu nodded.

"..." Gu Mengyao felt like throwing up. She'd been quite hungry to begin with, but now she had no appetite at all.

Wei Zhao went to open the door, and An Jianwen walked in beaming. Seeing Gu Mengyao, he wasn't overly enthusiastic — he merely nodded to her. "Yao Yao, I heard Xiaoshu is sick?"

"I'm not sick, I was just secretly sabotaged by Yao Yao..." Shen Yushu had barely opened her mouth when Gu Mengyao cut her off.

"She just has a bit of a stomach flu, nothing serious. She'll be fine once she's thrown up." How could Gu Mengyao let Shen Yushu say it?

"Oh, I see!" From Gu Mengyao's tone, An Jianwen gathered she didn't want to dwell on the matter, so he said no more. "Xiaoshu, Brother Tian is coming back tomorrow. Taizao and I are hosting a welcome dinner. You should come too — your brother hasn't seen you in ages, has he?"

"Okay." Shen Yushu agreed without much thought. After all, she hadn't seen her brother in a long time either; there was no reason not to go.

Gu Mengyao was somewhat annoyed. How could Shen Yushu just agree like that? If she went, could Gu Mengyao not go along? Was An Jianwen hosting this dinner for Chen Yutian, or for her? Probably only An Jianwen himself knew.

"Yao Yao, then you'll come too?" An Jianwen asked with a smile.

"Wei Zhao, you're free tomorrow night, right?" Gu Mengyao didn't answer An Jianwen. Instead she turned to Wei Zhao and asked, "You come with us!"

"Okay." Wei Zhao responded indifferently.

Though An Jianwen was a little displeased that Wei Zhao would be coming along, the thought that Gu Mengyao was willing to come at all was already good enough. He couldn't afford to stir up trouble now — if he refused to let Wei Zhao come and Gu Mengyao got angry and decided not to go, that would ruin everything.

So he smiled and said, "Haha, Yao Yao, even if you hadn't said it, I was going to invite Brother Wei Zhao anyway. The two of us are very close!"

"Is there anything else?" Gu Mengyao glanced at An Jianwen and asked.

"Well..." An Jianwen knew Gu Mengyao was about to show him the door, but he was reluctant in his heart — he still wanted to sit a while longer! A flash of inspiration struck. "Let's wait for Taizao. He went to buy fruit. Xiaoshu is sick — as her elder brothers, we can't very well show up empty-handed, can we?"

"Oh, then tell him to buy more. I'm starving to death!" When Shen Yushu heard that Su Taizao had gone to buy things, she gave her instructions.

"Sure, I'll call him right now!" An Jianwen's eyes lit up at once — now he finally had a reason to sit a while longer! Afraid that Gu Mengyao might interfere, he quickly pulled out his phone and dialed Su Taizao's number. "Taizao, Xiaoshu's hungry. Buy a bit more fruit, and pick up some dinner too. Go around to a few more places, buy a few more kinds — whatever you do, don't buy too little!"

An Jianwen's hint was already obvious enough. He trusted that as long as Su Taizao wasn't a complete fool, he would understand the meaning: to stay out a while longer and not come back right away.

Su Taizao wasn't stupid either. The moment he heard An Jianwen's words, he understood. He pulled the car straight over to the roadside and said, "Brother An, I'm really sorry — there's a bit of a traffic jam on the road. Don't worry!"
