Chapter 612 — Next Time I'll Definitely Knock

The Blossom Guardian

"Heh heh, how would you know without looking?" Wei Zhao smiled. "This isn't like you. The Tang Yun of old wouldn't have been so anxious over gain and loss, would she?"

Wei Zhao was right. The Tang Yun of before would never have wavered like this; she was a girl who dared to act and dared to own the consequences.

Tang Yun shot Wei Zhao a glare but said nothing. In her heart, though, she thought: what difference did it make whether she had been pretty before? Being plain saved her a great deal of needless trouble. But now things were different. If she was not pretty, would he still like her?

Still, under Wei Zhao's coaxing, Tang Yun walked to the mirror and, with a fluttering heart, looked at the girl in the glass — and could not help but start in surprise!

The scar on her forehead was gone, leaving only a faint mark. Unless one looked closely — and from very near — it could not be seen at all.

"That's new skin that's grown in. It will be a little different from the old for a while, but in a few days there won't be any difference at all," Wei Zhao explained.

"Is it really that miraculous?" Tang Yun could scarcely believe it. She had had eight stitches in her forehead — though Wei Zhao had taken them out in the end — and it must have been a bloody mess. To be restored to her pre-injury appearance in a single day... was she dreaming?

"There's nothing miraculous about it. Kang's Divine Doctor Golden Wound Medicine could achieve this effect long ago," Wei Zhao said, not thinking he had done anything remarkable.

"Kang's Divine Doctor Golden Wound Medicine — how could my family ever afford that? We'd never used it before, so how would I know?" Tang Yun was overjoyed beyond measure, hopping about the ward like a merry little bird — until her mother suddenly pushed the door open, giving her such a fright that she nearly fell.

Wei Zhao hurried to steady her, and Tang Yun tumbled right into his arms.

Mother Tang had come to check on her daughter's condition, afraid the girl would sink into gloom and despair. After all, she had never seen with her own eyes the effect of Wei Zhao's wound medicine, and she did not know whether Tang Yun could recover.

But the moment she entered, she saw her daughter and Wei Zhao being "intimate," and Mother Tang could not help feeling a little awkward. She cleared her throat and said, "I'll just step out and take a walk first."

"Mom!" Tang Yun was mortified. She hastily broke free of Wei Zhao's arms, not daring to raise her head to look at her mother, and fumed inwardly. Why did she have to fall at that exact moment — not earlier, not later, but just as her mother pushed the door open! How humiliating. Her mother surely wouldn't think she was throwing herself at Wei Zhao, would she?

"Heh heh, next time Mom will be sure to knock first." Mother Tang thought to herself that her daughter had grown up, and she would have to be more careful from now on. She had never considered such things before; only now did it dawn on her that her daughter needed her own private space.

Of course, that was all on the premise that Mother Tang liked Wei Zhao. With anyone else, she would not have been so easygoing — she would have been too busy wrecking things to bother!

"Mom, what are you saying!" Tang Yun said, squirming in protest. "The wound on my forehead has healed, and I was so happy I nearly fell. Wei Zhao just... just steadied me..."

Under her mother's damned knowing look, Tang Yun felt guilty, and so her words came out without conviction.

"I understand..." Mother Tang said, and seeing her daughter's expression, she looked even more like a woman who understood. Tang Yun knew then that the misunderstanding had only deepened.

"Auntie!" Wei Zhao, not the least bit flustered, nodded politely to Mother Tang in greeting. "How are Uncle Tang's injuries?"

"Much better. With the medicine you gave him, he's not in pain anymore, and he's been drinking the herbal decoction too. He seems to be doing well." In truth, Mother Tang had not expected Tang Jucheng's injuries to heal so quickly. Today he felt no pain at all; it looked as though he would soon be well.

"Let's go see Uncle Tang," Wei Zhao said.

"Huh? Yun'er, the wound on your head — it's really healed?" Mother Tang came closer then and saw clearly for herself the state of Tang Yun's forehead. Sure enough, only a faint scar remained, with nothing else out of the ordinary — and that scar was so faint it was nearly invisible. In time, she guessed, it would disappear altogether.

"Yes! It's really healed!" Tang Yun said, glancing shyly at Wei Zhao before turning to her mother.

"Xiao Yi's medical skill really is beyond words!" Mother Tang praised him without stinting, and the look in her eyes as she regarded Wei Zhao grew more and more approving. She felt her daughter was truly fortunate to have met Wei Zhao — she would never have to worry about anything for the rest of her life! And their family's circumstances would gradually improve as well!

Mother Tang had seen the news too. The collapse of Qibing Tower had made it onto television. Though no reason was given — only that the construction quality had failed to meet standards — Mother Tang knew the truth was probably not so simple!

How could it be such a coincidence? Wei Zhao had just taken his revenge on Zhao Qibing, and his tower had collapsed because of substandard construction? How could that be? Anyone with half a brain could figure out that Wei Zhao had brought it down!

At the time, Wei Zhao had had Fatty Lai go find bulldozers, excavators, and a demolition crew. If that tower had collapsed on its own, that would have been a wonder! Even if Zhao Qibing was a black-hearted businessman who cut corners on his buildings, he would never cut corners on the tower that housed his own corporate offices!

After all, he worked in that tower himself every day, and the tower was the face of his company! If even the office building's quality failed to meet standards, how would anyone dare buy property developed by his company?

But Zhao Qibing had no choice. Compared with that, he could not afford the loss of face. He would rather swallow his broken teeth and claim his own tower had failed inspection than admit to the world that Wei Zhao had torn it down!

How gratifying this was to Mother Tang! Zhao Qibing had demolished their home, and Wei Zhao went and demolished his tower! He had ruined Tang Yun's face and broken both of Tang Jucheng's legs, and Wei Zhao had repaid him in kind — ruined his face and broken his legs!

The Mother Tang of before would never have dared dream of such a thing! Those people had money and power; how could a family like theirs stand against them? When they suffered a loss and had nowhere to turn, they could only swallow their anger in silence. But things were different now — Wei Zhao was there to protect them!

Wei Zhao followed Mother Tang and Tang Yun to Tang Jucheng's ward. Tang Jucheng was listening to the radio at that moment. When he saw Wei Zhao, a rare smile appeared on his face — and when he saw that there seemed to be nothing at all wrong with his daughter's forehead, he was astonished beyond measure!

Since being admitted to the hospital, Tang Jucheng had not visited Tang Yun's ward, but he knew how badly she had been hurt. When they had lifted her into the ambulance in front of their house in the shantytown, he had seen his daughter's face covered in blood!

"Xiao Yi's here — sit down, quickly! Yunyun, the wound on your head — is it all right now?" Tang Jucheng turned off the radio and stared at his daughter in amazement and disbelief.
