Chapter 379 — Absolutely Incredible
Liu Yu glanced at Yang Ce, betraying nothing in his expression... In truth, he was deeply shocked. Yang Ce seemed to have better connections than he did, and he had been to Las Vegas several times!
A single casual phone call had set the leader of the biker gang scrambling to prepare heavy sniper rifles! And judging by the tone of the conversation, it was not the least bit equal—it was the posture of someone looking down from far above!
He spoke as one might to a servant or a subordinate—not negotiating, but allowing no room for refusal.
Liu Yu and Fatty had met many times, and Fatty had run his business in Las Vegas for years, yet even he was not particularly close with the local underworld—merely acquainted. After all, the scrapyard needed the local gangs' protection, and the monthly tribute was unavoidable.
And of all the local gangs, the one the scrapyard dealt with most was the biker gang! It was precisely under the biker gang's protection that Fatty had escaped unwanted attention all this time!
So Liu Yu knew that this Old Lange was the old chief of the biker gang, a man who ordinarily stood so high above that a single meeting with him was next to impossible for Fatty. Yet Yang Puqi had made one phone call and sent Old Lange running this way and that... Just what sort of identity did this Yang Ce have? How was he this formidable? Liu Yu simply could not figure it out!
"Yang Ce, did you come to Las Vegas often before?" Liu Yu was curious, but it would be rude to probe into another man's **, so he could only circle around the question.
"Come often? Where would I find the time—this is my first visit," Yang Shuoxuan said, no fool, guessing Liu Yu's meaning at once. "You want to know how I know the biker gang's leader, isn't that right?"
"Heh... you caught me. I was just curious—asking purely out of personal interest, and you don't have to answer." Liu Yu nodded, a little embarrassed.
"Oh, yesterday I ruined his son Little Lange's ***... so he's afraid of me." Yang Ce shrugged. "Simple as that. Before this, I couldn't have told you which sorry bastard he even was!"
"Uh... you ruined his son?" Liu Yu was dumbstruck. You cripple the man's son, and he's still afraid of you? This was the biker gang—you'd be lucky if they didn't throw every last one of their people at you, so why would they be afraid? Had he heard wrong?
"Well, you can't say I ruined him, exactly. Strictly speaking, I had Old Lange do it—he crippled his own son with his own hands," Yang Yanzhou said. "It had nothing to do with me..."
"What?" Liu Yu was more shocked still. He had already been reeling, and now he could scarcely believe his ears! It was inconceivable! Astounding! That Old Lange would be so obedient as to personally cripple his own son? "He—he didn't resist?"
"No." Yang Ce shook his head. "He didn't dare. He was afraid I'd wipe out the entire biker gang."
"Uh..." Only today did Liu Yu learn what it meant to be a madman, what it meant to be a ruthless one! Originally, he had been the most formidable presence in the Field Unit—but today, seeing the ace of the Special Services Unit, a whole tier above the Field Unit, Liu Yu learned that a man could be even madder, even more ruthless.
"Heh, there's a gang in Las Vegas called the Headcutters. Have you heard of them?" Yang Yanchuan said.
"I've heard of them... but these past few days, word on the grapevine says the Headcutters were wiped out by the biker gang, their turf swallowed up?" Liu Yu said.
It seemed Fatty's intelligence network was quite good indeed—this had only just happened, and Liu Yu already knew of it.
"Heh, wiped out by the biker gang? I wiped them out. The whole reason I came to Las Vegas was for the Headcutters," Yang Hengye said. "But then I saw Old Lange was fairly obedient, so I handed the turf over to them as a favor."
"Uh..." Beyond shock, Liu Yu had no words left. It was a long while before he managed: "Brother Yang, you're a madman! On your first visit to Las Vegas, you've turned the whole city's powers upside down! How did the Headcutters provoke you?"
"Oh, nothing much. A friend of mine was playing at the South City Casino, and they cheated him and held him. That's why I came over from home," Yang Yanzhou said. "They wouldn't listen to reason, so I wiped the Headcutters out along the way."
"..." That's allowed? Liu Yu was utterly in awe of Yang Ce. "Brother Yang, but the South City family stands behind the Headcutters... aren't you afraid that..."
"You're overthinking it." Yang Lin Yue spoke mildly. "Jotans, the head of the South City family, came in person to apologize to me, and handed the South City Casino over to me as well. Only then did I let him off..."
"Damn! Damn! Damn!" Liu Yu said "damn" three times in a row. "From now on, you're my boss—you look out for me! You're absolutely incredible, a match for my old man back in his day..."
"Heh..." Yang Hengye laughed. "Look out for you? Once we get to Yunnan, whether the two of us even make it back is another matter..."
Liu Yu now understood: beyond his surface identity with the mysterious Bureau of Investigation, Yang Ce surely had even more astonishing identities and abilities. But he and Yan Gang had only just met, after all, and it would be rude to pry into such things.
Though Yang Ce did not hide anything and had told him a good deal, Liu Yu was not one to press his luck. Some things, perhaps, Yang Ce would tell him slowly on the road to Yunnan, so there was no need to rush.
As the two were talking, a black business van glided up and parked behind his Passat. Then the Passat's door swung open, and Old Lange came running over, lugging a large case.
"Didn't expect the old fellow to come in person." Yang Hengye opened the car door.
Had this been before, Liu Yu would have been astonished to death by Old Lange's conduct—but after hearing so many of Yang Ce's incredible exploits, this was a trifle, nothing worth mentioning.
"Great Sage Yang, I'm here!" Old Lange ran up before Yang Juehuan, his body bent, and spoke with the utmost reverence.
"Great Sage Yang?" Liu Yu was badly startled to hear it.
Yang Shuoxuan looked utterly blank. Since when had he become a great sage?
"Old Lange, what did you call me?" Yang Ce wondered if his ears were playing tricks on him...
"Ah, it's like this. You are omnipotent, and so you are a great sage—we call you Great Sage Yang!" Old Lange explained.
"Forget it. That name's too much. Just call me Mr. Yang—I'm not used to it." Yang Jin Cong smiled and shrugged.
"Very good, Mr. Yang!" Old Lange nodded. "This is what you asked for, all prepared. It's in the case here."
"Mm, put it in the car." Yang Ce pointed to the Passat's back seat.
"Very good." After Old Lange had set the case down, he turned back around. "Mr. Yang, is there anything else you require?"
